The Biophilic Movement
A long time ago, Nebuchadnezzar II decided to create, what would become, an ancient wonder of the world. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was a massive multi-story garden incorporated into the city.

This is ancient Biophilia at its finest. Nebuchadnezzar II and the other ancient architects knew that nature was a major part of life, and that it shouldn't be completely erased from the great city of Babylon.
Here we are in the 21st century, streets glaze over the landscape and building tower through the skies. Sometimes all of this happens and can be observed without seeing a single tree or bush. Have we forgotten what the ancients knew? We evolved, or were created, within nature. Whether we were created in the Garden of Eden, or evolved from primitive species, we have been deeply connected to nature up until the past 300 years or so. It's time to bring nature back into the cities. The lack of such nature is affecting us mentally and physically, and our lifeless cities are leaving an ecological impact on our Mother Earth. It's time to change that and get back to our roots, literally and figuratively. |
